Deleting your account

Last updated 8 September 2026

In short

Open Deline, go to Profile, scroll to the bottom and tapDelete my account, then confirm. No email, no form, no reason required. Your login, your name, your picture and your notification token are deleted. The amounts stay, attached to a former member instead of to you, because otherwise everyone else's balance on that trip would silently become wrong.

Version 1.5. Effective 8 September 2026.

How to do it, in the app

  1. Open Deline.
  2. Open your Profile - the avatar in the trip drawer.
  3. Scroll to the bottom.
  4. Tap Delete my account.
  5. Confirm. The confirmation tells you exactly what will happen before you commit.

You are signed out immediately and everything below happens at once. It cannot be undone, and there is no grace period during which you can change your mind.

You need a connection. This is one of the very few things in Deline that cannot be done offline and queued, because it has to be confirmed by the server before your session stops being valid.

If you cannot get into the app

Email support@deline.dev from the address you signed up with and ask for your account to be deleted. You do not need to explain why. You will get confirmation within 30 days, and normally within a few days.

If you cannot email from that address either, say so and describe the account - we will find another way to check it is yours before deleting anything, because deleting the wrong account on somebody's say-so is the worse failure.

What is deleted

  • your login, email address and password
  • the identifier from Apple or Google, if you signed in that way
  • your profile, your display name and your initials
  • your profile picture, including older pictures you had replaced - all of them, from storage, not just the pointer to them
  • your notification token, so notifications stop arriving
  • your subscription record, your scan allowances and your usage history
  • your name on every trip you were on. It is replaced with a neutral "former member" label. Nobody on those trips sees your name again.

What is kept, and why

Deline is a shared ledger. The awkward truth about deleting yourself from one is that other people are still using it.

  • The amounts. What you paid and what you owed stay on each trip, now attached to a former member rather than to you. If they were removed, every remaining member's balance would change and they would be settling up against numbers that no longer add up. Keeping them is what makes the trip correct for the people still on it.
  • Receipt photographs you took. A receipt is the evidence for a split other people are still settling. They stay with the expense, in private storage readable only by that trip.
  • Trip photographs you added. They are part of a shared record that other people also contributed to.
  • Trip content you wrote - plans, places, notes - stays with the trip, without your name on it.
  • Notifications already delivered to other people's phones. Those are on their devices and cannot be recalled.
  • Apple's record of any purchase. Apple holds the billing relationship, and its records are not ours to delete. Ask Apple.

If you want a specific photograph removed as well, email support@deline.dev and say which one. That is handled individually rather than automatically, because deleting a shared record is a decision with other people in it.

Getting a copy first

Before you delete, you can export everything held about you: Profile, thenGet a copy of my data. It covers your account, your membership of each trip, what you paid, what you were assigned a share of, and what you settled. It is scoped to you rather than to whole trips, because a dump of a whole trip would be a dump of five other people's financial records.

Do this before deleting. Afterwards there is no account to export from.

If you were added to a trip and never had an account

Someone can add you to a trip by typing your name, and you will hold a balance without ever having installed Deline. You have the same rights as anyone else andyou do not need to create an account to use them.

Email support@deline.dev with the name you were added under and, if you know it, the trip name or who added you. You can ask what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for your name to be removed. Removal works the same way it does for account holders: the name goes, the amounts stay so that the other people's arithmetic survives.

The full explanation of what is held about people without accounts is in the Privacy Policy.

Leaving one trip instead

If you only want out of one trip, you do not have to delete your account. Open the trip, go to its Group tab, and tap your own name in the member list - the option there isLeave this trip. Your history on that trip stays for the people still on it, for the same reason as above.
