Terms of Service

Last updated 8 September 2026

In short

Deline records what a trip cost and works out who owes whom. It never holds or moves money - the figures are a calculation, not a transaction. Everything you put in a trip is visible to everyone on it. If you add someone who has no account, you are responsible for having had a reason to. The receipt reader can misread things, so check it. You need to be 16. Subscriptions are billed by Apple and the details are on the subscription terms page.

Version 1.5. Effective 8 September 2026.

These terms are the agreement between you and Adam Hessel about your use of Deline. They are written to be read, so they are shorter and plainer than most. Installing or using the app means you accept them.

How your data is handled is a separate document, and the more interesting one: see the Privacy Policy.

Who you are agreeing with

Deline is provided by Adam Hessel, an individual, of Kocktorpsvägen 50, 132 43 Stockholm, Sweden. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean that person, and "you" means you. Deline is the name of the product, not of a company - there is no registered entity and no organisation number.

Who can use Deline

You need to be at least 16 to use Deline. Sixteen is also the age from which data protection law across the EU treats a person as able to give their own consent for an online service, rather than needing a parent or guardian to give it for them.

You also need to be somewhere we are allowed to offer the app, and not be barred from using it under sanctions or export rules that apply to you.

Your account

You give us an email address and pick a display name, or you sign in with Apple or Google. Keep your account secure and do not let other people use it. Your display name is shown to everyone on a trip you join - pick one you are happy for them to see.

Tell us at support@deline.dev if you think someone else has got into your account.

Costs, and what Deline is not

Deline records what a trip cost, who paid, and what that means everyone owes each other. It does that arithmetic and shows you the result.

Deline does not hold, transfer or process money. It is not a bank, a payment service, a payment institution, an e-money issuer or a money remitter. It is not connected to your bank or your cards, it never comes into possession of anyone's funds, and no payment between users passes through it. When the app says you owe someone 40 euro, that is a calculation, not a transaction - you settle up between yourselves, however you already do.

We are not a party to any debt between you and anyone else. Settle-up figures are a convenience calculation from the numbers people typed in. We do not verify amounts, check receipts, or take a position on who actually owes what. If a group disagrees about money, that is between the group - we cannot arbitrate it and we will not try.

Nothing in Deline is financial, tax or legal advice.

Premium

Deline has a paid tier. Prices, what is included, the quotas, the free trial, auto-renewal and your right to withdraw are all set out on the subscription terms page, which forms part of these terms. Everything you buy is charged by Apple under your App Store account.

The receipt reader and booking import are best effort

Deline can read a photograph of a receipt, or a booking screenshot, and fill in the items, amounts, dates and reference numbers for you. It gets things wrong. It can misread an amount, a date, a flight number or a currency, and it can miss a line entirely.

Everything it extracts is shown to you on a review screen before anything is saved, and you can change any of it. Check it before you rely on it. We are not responsible for a split that is wrong because an extracted figure was wrong and nobody checked it.

Content you add

Your trips, notes, expenses and photographs stay yours. We do not claim ownership of any of it.

To run the app we need your permission to do the obvious technical things with that content: store it, back it up, and show it to the other people on the trip you put it in. That permission lasts as long as the content does, and ends when you delete it - except for backups already taken, which age out on their own.

A trip is shared by design. Anything you add to a trip is visible to everyone on that trip, and they can see it for as long as the trip exists, including after you leave it or delete your account. If you would rather a particular photograph were removed too, email us and we will deal with it.

Adding other people

Deline lets you add someone to a trip who does not have an account - you type their name and they hold a balance like anyone else. That is a normal, expected thing to do, and it meansyou are putting another person's information into our service.

When you do that, you confirm that:

  • you have a proper reason to record that person's name and their share of what was spent - normally that you actually went on the trip together and are actually splitting the bill;
  • you will not add a name, a photograph or a note about someone in order to embarrass, mislead or harass them, or anyone else on the trip;
  • you will tell them, if it is reasonable to, that their name and their share are recorded in an app the other people on the trip can see;
  • you will correct or remove what you added if they ask you to, and you will let us know if they ask us instead.

We explain what is held about people who have no account, and how they can exercise their rights without creating one, in the Privacy Policy.

What you must not do

  • Break the law with it, or use it to help someone else do that.
  • Upload content you do not have the right to upload.
  • Upload other people's personal information without a good reason to - a receipt with a stranger's card details on it does not belong in a trip.
  • Harass, impersonate or abuse anyone else on a trip.
  • Attack the service: break into other people's accounts or trips, probe or overload our infrastructure, or work around the access rules that keep trips private.
  • Work around the scan quotas or rate limits, including by making extra accounts or extra trips to collect more free scans than one person is meant to have.
  • Reverse-engineer, resell or rent out the app, except where the law says you may.

Trips you are invited to

An invite link or code lets someone join a trip. Treat it like a key: anyone who has it can join that trip and see its content. Links expire, and whoever owns the trip can reset them in the app, which kills every outstanding link for that trip at once.

Keeping the app running

We will do a good job of keeping Deline working, but we do not promise it is always available or always free of faults. We may change features, and occasionally remove them. If we are going to make a change that significantly affects how you use the app, we will tell you in advance where we reasonably can.

Your trip data is stored on our infrastructure and backed up, but no service is immune to loss. Anything you cannot afford to lose deserves a copy somewhere else too.

Ending it

You can stop using Deline whenever you like, and delete your account from inside the app without asking us or explaining yourself. What that removes and what it deliberately leaves behind is set out on the account deletion page.

We can suspend or close an account that is breaking these terms, or that is being used to harm someone else or the service. Unless the law stops us or it would make the harm worse, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right first.

Our responsibility, and its limits

We are responsible to you for loss we cause by breaking this agreement or by failing to use reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us limit.

Beyond that, we are not responsible for losses we could not reasonably have foreseen, for business losses, or for money disputes between people on a trip - including any amount the app calculated. We are not responsible for what other people on your trip do with what they can see.

If you are a consumer in the EU or EEA, you keep every right your national consumer law gives you, and nothing above takes any of it away.

Apple

Apple requires that a few things are said plainly when an app on the App Store has its own terms, so:

  • This agreement is between you and us. It is not with Apple, and Apple is not responsible for Deline or its content.
  • Your licence to use Deline is a personal, non-transferable licence to run it on Apple devices you own or control, under Apple's Usage Rules in the App Store Terms of Service.
  • Support and maintenance are ours, not Apple's. Apple has no obligation to provide either. Reach us at support@deline.dev.
  • If the app fails to conform to any warranty that applies, you can tell Apple and Apple may refund what you paid for it. Beyond that refund, Apple has no warranty obligation, and any other claim is ours to answer.
  • Any claim about the app - product liability, a failure to meet a legal requirement, consumer protection, or a claim that the app infringes someone's intellectual property - is ours to handle, not Apple's.
  • You confirm you are not in a country subject to a US embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and are not on a US list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you directly.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change matters to you, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and the version number and date at the top of this page will change. If you do not accept a change, stop using Deline and delete your account.

Which law applies

Swedish law governs this agreement. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and you can bring proceedings in your own country's courts.

If something goes wrong, email us first - most things are settled that way. If we cannot resolve it and you are a consumer in Sweden, you can take it to the National Board for Consumer Disputes (Allmänna reklamationsnämnden), at arn.se. Consumers elsewhere in the EU or EEA can use their own national equivalent.

Odds and ends

If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still stands. If we do not enforce something straight away, we have not given up the right to. You may not transfer this agreement to someone else; we may transfer it if the business is sold, and it will not reduce your rights.
